Talent Orchard has been contracted by a top tier defense firm to assist them with finding qualified candidates for a Lead Business Analyst opportunity. This opportunity is a flex work schedule with opportunities to work remotely.The Lead Business Analyst will need to provide guidance in discerning and utilizing the right mix of visual and textual materials, facilitating the efficient gathering of business needs and requirements from stakeholders. In this role the Lead Business Analyst will collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to evaluate existing IT systems and processes. The data collected will be used to conduct alternative analysis to recommend optimal solutions that meet business and technical requirements.

Flex-work - will be able to work remotely but must reside in one of these locations to be able to report in to the office for meetings:

  1. VA/DC area
  2. Fort Collins, CO area
  3. Kansas City, MO area


  • Collaborate and build relationships with application developers, business partners, subject matter experts, and enterprise architects
  • Solicit requirements through interviews, workshops and/or existing systems documents or procedures
  • Analyze information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
  • Document functional and non-functional requirements specifications
  • Document business process flow using modeling standards
  • Contribute to defining process improvement opportunities
  • Perform feasibility analysis to support selection of technical and process solution alternatives
  • Develop and define implementation plans for effective, strategic business solutions
  • Design and prepare presentations, customized graphics, reports and/or charts to enhance the effectiveness of communications related to the project
  • Maintain a deep awareness of how the business works and helping the stakeholders explore technology possibilities to more effectively execute toward the strategic mission
  • Effective management and protection of sensitive data and government information
  • Provide best practice guidance to other analyst
  • Assist with developing executive level presentations and business case justification
  • Contribute to project status reporting and executive summaries


  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.


  • Ability to pass a government National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI) background investigation for public trust positions


  • 9 or more years of business analysis, computer science or information technologies related or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of application development or maintenance experience working on data processing or business related projects
  • Experience working on large scale projects that required management and development of business, technical and administrative requirements
  • Ability to facilitate requirements gathering and technical design sessions amongst various agency professionals of all levels including executive level professionals
  • Facilitating organizational change management strategies/plans, approaches and tactics with different business areas
  • Experience with and use of traceability matrices
  • Ability to understand and document business requirements and analyze platform capabilities
  • Capable of interacting with multiple vendors and envisioning the overall solution
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment to solve business problems
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, technical, and analytical skills including the ability to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Acute attention to detail and problem solving skills with the ability to identify trends and patterns even among conflicting and/or inaccurate data
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor communications appropriately according to the delivery audience
  • Successfully work on multiple tasks and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment with extremely tight timelines
  • Ability to understand software development framework, architecture concepts and terminology
  • Willingness to travel if/when needed


  • Familiar with industry standard analysis and requirements solicitation techniques such as data flow modeling, workflow analysis and functional decomposition analysis
  • Experience working with or analyzing PaaS or SaaS offerings
  • Government consulting experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, Outlook
