Job Posting! We are working with an organic food manufacturer that is looking for an R&D Lead in the Midwest. This highly influential creative role will own the R&D process from concept to commercialization with a real interest and skill set for the culinary side. The R&D Lead will lead new development and renovation while building on processes for the organization. This role reports into the VP of Marketing.

Job Duties:

  • Lead product innovation & renovation opportunities that drive company growth & performance
  • Drive product development on the bench, plant trials & plant operations and deliver against KPIs
  • Coordinate with the VP of Marketing on consumer trends & retailer feedback and use insights to design new products and renovations.
  • Consistently recommends new concepts or improvements that are in line with product trends
  • Improve operational excellence during implementation
  • Collaborate on trial runs, first production runs to ensure execution matches concept
  • Coordinate with purchasing staff to establish performance criteria for new ingredients
  • Facilitate the production and commercialization process with co-packer
  • Assess supplier’s innovation, technologies and product specifications
  • Develop samples of new and current products for retailers
  • Manage, develop and coach the R&D Technician  
  • Partner with QA & Production to ensure production execution matches the concept
  • Drive new methods to achieve quality targets or make ingredient substitutions
  • Support HACCP and food safety issues
  • Implement processes and procedures that focus on obtaining & maintaining GFSI certification at the production facility

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in food science of related field
  • 7-10 years of experience in R&D in a food manufacturing CPG environment
  • Past proven success in launching, extending and renovating product lines
  • Must have a real interest and skill set for the culinary side. Ability to perform thoughtful recipe development
  • Needs to have a creative culinary side balanced with the ability to do full commercial launch
  • Must have a technical R&D food background, preferable experience with USDA and natural/organic
  • Positive contributing team member
  • Must be a self-directing person. Must be able to lead cross functional projects, resolve problems and make effective decisions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Strong base of food safety principals, HACCP, GMP’s
