Data Center Technician

The Data Center Technician takes direction from the Data Center Engineer and is instrumental in providing the day-to-day activities of inventorying, installing, upgrading/modifying and uninstalling equipment through service tickets generated by the Client.

The Data Center Technician shall possess the following minimum skills and


  • Hands-on hardware experience with business/enterprise-grade servers, such as HP WINTEL, and Cisco network equipment
  • Previous experience working in a Data Center environment performing tasks such as “racking and stacking”, cable management, and cable testing
  • Experience with the installation of server components such as Network Interface Cards (NICs), hard drives, DIMMs and other peripherals
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and dispatch procedures such as Remedy Help Desk, or CA Service Desk
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products such as SharePoint, Word and Excel
  • Network, Security or Server industry certifications would be a plus
  • Possession of either a CDCMP or CDCDP certification is required
  • Experience with the operation of a pallet jack
  • Familiarity with the operation of a server lift

In addition, the Data Center Technician shall possess experience at a basic level of knowledge for the following Data Center concepts:

  • Data Center whitespace
  • Hot/Cold aisle cooling
  • In-rack power units, especially APC PDUs
  • In-rack cable management
  • Structured cabling
  • Typical data center copper cabling CAT6A and RJ45 connectors
  • Typical data center copper and fiber cabling, Multimode, Single Mode
  • Fiber connectivity, LC, FC, SFP+, MTP, MPO
  • Single mode and three-phase power
  • Networking Concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Server hardware
  • Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and local storage
  • Backup tape rotation procedures
  • Mainframes and IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC)
  • Data Center safety and emergency procedures


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • AA, BS, or High School Diploma and actively pursuing and advanced degree in the technology field
  • Two (2) + years of related Data Center infrastructure experience


Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Reach 30” above their head
  • Crouch below waist level
  • Ability to climb warehouse-type ladders
  • See small objects at distances of 1-3 feet
  • Withstand typical data center hot/cold aisle temperatures
  • The position will require periods of 5-8 hours of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and pushing


Must have or be capable of obtaining a Public Trust Clearance (requires background investigation)

Full-time, 1099 or Corp-to-Corp acceptable. No Third Party candidates.
