Mechanical Design Engineer

The Engineer in this capacity will discover, test and implement new technologies into market leading products. This individual will be a key member in strategic execution of product development, championing great design and problem solving skills. This is a contract to direct hire position with a world-wide leader in consumer products, located in a state of the art facility in down-town Minneapolis.  

Responsibilities  

• Complete mechanical design engineering functions on new product development projects, with exposure to all stages of development from concept conception to commercialization.

• Define mechanical engineering requirements, design for manufacturing (DFM)

• Identify and analyze new product design criteria to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy cost, technical requirements and project schedules.

• Develop test methodologies and protocol to ensure that new product designs are verified and validated before product launch.

• Execute change management to include product and regulatory documentation.

• Conduct periodic design reviews to gather design inputs from cross-functional teams.

• Partner with external vendors on the purchase, design, testing, and installation of new equipment & new products.

• Lead Design projects for pumps, controls and able to collaborate with EE on controller, foundations and remote control projects

 

Requirements

• BSME required, MSME considered a plus

• 2-6 years of experience in mechanical engineering field.

• Experienced in lab setting, try things, mock up, and working hands on is a majority of the job

• Six-Sigma experience considered a plus.

• P.E. license considered a plus

• Strong mechanical engineering aptitude.

• Excellent problem solving skills, and practical application of strong mechanical design theory and analytical skills.

• Demonstrated success in few design, development, validation and launches of new products.

• Proficient with new product development tools like Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Design Validation & Testing (DVT).

• Proven proficiency in design and development of mechanical systems.

• Strong CAD (Pro/ENGINEER preferred) skills are required. Experienced in Tolerance analysis and GD&T.  

• Desire to work in a hands-on R&D lab environment, along with engineering technicians.
