PBS NewsHour Weekend, a national current affairs program produced at WNET, covers the national and international news of the day and regularly features longer-form, in-depth “signature” segments. The 30-minute broadcast airs Saturdays and Sundays on PBS stations.


The Senior Producer plans and coordinates the complete range of activities involved in the production of news and current affairs program segments. S/he will work closely with the editorial teams at all stages of the production process from story development through post-production. S/he will also oversee the program in the absence of the Executive Producer.


Responsibilities and tasks will include, but are not limited to, overseeing the researching and pitching of stories, the development of  storylines and the identifying of locations and characters; managing the production teams that produce the stories; working with on-camera talent as required, writing and editing of scripts; and supervising the editing and delivery of segments. The Senior Producer may also produce program segments as required and assigned. In addition, he/she will liaise, as necessary, with various other departments, including publicity, production services, finance and legal.


Please note this position requires weekend work hours.

Required Skills

• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in television production, at least five (5) of which will have been spent producing daily or weekly current affairs segments and/or programs;
• Ability to write for video;
• Exceptional research skills, written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and to problem-solve when difficulties arise.
Optional Skills

Candidates with experience in control room, live broadcast, and staff management are preferred.
