Summary:  The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound) Instructor/Clinical Coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching students, developing and maintaining clinical affiliations, supervising students in the clinical settings and maintaining records of the clinical education component.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Develop and instruct in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) didactic course work of Health Professions.

·         Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.

·         Participate in continued evaluation of the programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography to include scanning protocols for the lab.

·         Coordinate clinical instruction given by identified clinical preceptors.

·         Assist in the development and operation of the program by participating in the formulation of program, lab, and clinical policies and procedures.

·         Deliver training of scanning protocols for the individual organ systems of the upper abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology, small parts, vascular technology, and application of ultrasound physics in the lab to correlate with didactic lectures.

·         Serves as resource and mentor for students and staff in the clinical arena.

·         Communicates effectively with staff, peers, director, and external and internal customers.

·         Coordinate completion by students of all clinical competencies, and ensures all of the objectives are met during the duration of the clinical rotation.

·         Verify the student has maintained accurate updated attendance and clinical experience documentation.

·         Schedule of clinical make up hours for the student if necessary.

·         Assign grades for all students completing the clinical internship components of the program based on clinical input.

·         Maintain accurate and complete documentation of clinical internship competencies for all students completing the clinical components of the program.

·         Responsible for the daily operations of the lab.

·         Maintains lab equipment.

·         Monitors lab equipment for safety issues.

·         Monitors levels of and maintains adequate lab supplies.

·         Assist in developing and maintaining departmental documentation to include filing as required.

·         Ensure there are sufficient and a variety of clinical sites for students to be placed at during their clinical rotation.

·         The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound) Instructor will procure new clinical sites.

·         Ensure all students are following the guidelines of the student handbook and address issues which may arise.

·         Ability to read, write, speak, understand and satisfactorily communicate in English

·         Other duties as assigned.

  • Develop and maintains clinical affiliations at facilities for clinical and externship         
  • Coordinates schedules for clinical rotations, coordinates faculty assignments for clinical staff
  • Mentors and monitors clinical faculty
  • Collects records and reports, retains case logs, and clinical evaluations
  • Ensures that students meet clinical affiliate requirements for the rotation in a clinical setting
  • Maintains a record of grades in a formal grade book or electronic record, which is backed up and secured
  • Reports academic progress of students and submits final grades to PD/Registrar
  • Attends mandatory faculty meetings and in-service activities
  • Maintains continuing education and professional growth activity and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, institutional, and programmatic regulations
  • Adheres to academic policies/procedures for compliance
  • Assist with student advising
  • Assist Director of Education/Education Coordination with administrative functions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
The requirements to qualify for this position are: 2 to 5 years clinical experience, Associate's Degree (BA Preferred), and be registered in vascular and registered in at least one other specialty (ABD or OB/GYN) or eligible to sit for their ABD or OB/GYN.   

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
 
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound) Instructor/Coordinator should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Internet software.
 
Certificates and Licenses:
Certifications in abdomen, vascular or OB/GYN.  In addition, certification must be active/current on the registry.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises instructional staff. (DMS)
