CHURCH OFFICE ASSISTANT (Presbyterian)
Orange Park, FL 

 

PURPOSE: To assist the Pastor, the bookkeeper, and other church leaders in the ministry of Jesus Christ.

ACCOUNTABILITY:  The Church Assistant is accountable to the Pastor and the Stewardship Committee of the Session.

DAYS AND HOURS WORKED: 15-25 hours per week, $12.00 per hour, days/hours TBD

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet and assist visitors to church office
  • Prepare correspondence, mailings, materials, and copies
  • Check and forward or respond to email
  • Prepare bulletins and PowerPoint slides for worship services
  • Prepare other written and electronic materials
  • Answer the phone, provide information, and refer calls
  • Retrieve and distribute postal mail
  • Respond to requests to rent building, as guided by church leadership and policies
  • Keep Pastor and church leaders informed visitor contacts, inquiries, and urgent situations
  • Prepare Sunday attendance report
  • Ensure that the outdoor church sign is updated
  • Order flowers and maintain the flower chart
  • Inventory and order office supplies
  • Maintain the website
  • Maintain the church directory
  • Maintain and update church calendars
  • Maintain the newsletter contact list
  • Produce or assist with church newsletter
  • Assist with social media posts
  • Attend meetings, as requested
  • Assist with special projects, as requested
  • Attend services or events occasionally, as requested (e.g. festival)
  • Assist the pastor with other administrative tasks, as requested
  • Assists church treasurer with bookkeeping duties and other tasks
  • Assist Session Clerk, Church Treasurer, and other leaders with other administrative tasks, as requested
  • Provide occasional administrative back-up support for the preschool at the request of the Pastor or Preschool Board leadership
  • Acts as a back-up to open doors and welcome preschool students, parents and visitors at the request of the Preschool Board Co-Directors
  • Other duties as requested

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma required, with some college preferred
  • Must possess accurate data entry skills. Proficient in computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
  • Highly skilled in writing, grammar and proofreading documents with high attention to detail 
  • Pleasant telephone demeanor
  • Skilled in running and maintain social media platforms, under supervision 
  • Experience with bookkeeping tasks
  • Ability to work on own, self-start and to keep confidences
Required Skills

High school diploma with some college, preferred
Must be comfortable with data entry. Proficient in computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
Excellent writer and proofreader
