WINTEL ENGINEER (Direct Hire Opportunity)

I. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Wintel Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure equipment. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, policies, and procedures.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Windows systems, Virtualization Systems, Storage systems, LAN/WAN support for multiple offices, Data Center operations, Tier 2 & 3 Support requests, and projects as assigned by the Infrastructure Manager.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

SA Engineering and Provisioning

• Engineering of System Administration (SA)-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
• Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Install and configure systems that support infrastructure applications.
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
• Contribute to and maintain system standards.
• Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support

• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
• Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
• Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
• Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
• Provide Tier 2/3 and other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
• Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

Maintenance

• Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
• Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
• Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
• Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
• Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

III. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, TRAINING OR SPECIAL LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB :

(Looking for individuals with SME experience with at least 2 or more technologies listed below)

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as: Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, Active Directory, Group Policy, WSUS, LAPS, DFS, VSS, Print Server
• Strong knowledge of Enterprise Messaging systems such as:  Exchange 2013, Spam Filtering, Email Encryption.
• Working knowledge of VMware and Citrix Virtualization technologies.
• Working knowledge of network technologies and services: DHCP, DNS, VPN, Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Wireless Access Points.
• Working knowledge of VOIP systems.
• Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as: vbScript & Powershell
• Working knowledge of server and network hardware: HP Servers, iLo, Cisco/HP Network hardware, Cat6, Cat5e, Fiber Cabling.
• Strong knowledge of Enterprise Server Backup Systems.
• Experience supporting a 1000+ user environment across multiple locations
• Desired Certifications are a plus for him:  CCNA, VCP, MCSE.
   

Complexity/Problem Solving:

• Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and requires determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best.

Communications/Interpersonal Contacts:

• Must maintain positive attitude when working with IT team, other colleagues, and customers.
• Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues.
• Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.

IV. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Education

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science

Experience

Minimum: 3-5 years systems engineer/ system administration experience

V. SPECIAL JOB OR ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice
• No regular travel required
• Working in Data Center environments with cool temperatures.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs of equipment
