Applications Engineer (Industrial Coatings)
The Applications Engineer combines technical expertise with sales techniques to provide effective solutions for customers. Primary responsibilities include visiting assigned customer sites to provide front line support and collaborating with various teams in order to manage complaint and commercialization processes.
Routinely visits assigned customer plants to provide product support and perform line audits.
Collaborates with multiple departments to manage complaint resolution and new product commercialization processes in the field.
Provides front line support for coating applications at strategic accounts.
Conducts research of chemical properties to develop and improve customer specific chemical formulations of coatings, sealants, and adhesives for the food, beverage, and general packaging industries.
Performs a broad range of physical and chemical tests and analyses to assure that new materials can be used in manufacturing products to meet customer specifications.
Effectively participates in planning customer account strategies.
Focuses on continuous process improvement, primarily for complaint resolution and new product commercialization.
Participates in Sales/Operations/Technical Planning (SOTP) meetings to address key issues within product lines.
Collaborates with Sales team to develop and implement segment growth strategies.
Maintains regular contact with customers to build relationships, to understand needs and to identify business opportunities.
Ensures follow-up and response to customer needs in a timely manner.
Actively manages own travel and expense budgets.
Assists lab with addressing and completing Sample Requests and complaint resolution, as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Utilizes industry and product applications concepts and procedures.
Understanding of advanced technical (lab, research, etc.) principles and practices.
Strong business acumen and relationship building skills.
Must have strong problem solving skills and good analytical judgment.
High attention to detail.
Must have excellent oral communication skills.
Ability to complete required reports and business correspondence in a timely manner.

Utilizes safe work practices and procedures in performance of assigned duties.
Maintains highest standards of housekeeping in immediate work area.
Ability to perform extensive travel throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers in order solicit orders, attend trials, troubleshoot problems or for any other reason.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
Proven record of at least five (5) years relevant experience.
Extensive coatings industry knowledge required.
Strong written and verbal skills required.
Must be proficient in MS Office Suite products (Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel).
