We are looking for a qualified candidate to support a vibrant and active research effort ongoing at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. Working as an onsite contractor at AFRL is a unique opportunity to solve important, long term challenges that guide research efforts in an environment that strongly encourages collaboration (government/academic/industry), publication in top journals, and conference attendance.
The candidate will serve as an onsite contractor working onsite with the AFRL team on focusing on computational and theoretical mechanics. The candidate is expected to work closely with experimentalists preparing and characterizing nonlinear mechanical responses observed in topologically imprinted liquid crystalline elastomers. Skills and experience of interest include FEA, First Principles application, and theoretical modeling of optical, mechanical, and/or electronic behavior of complex polymers, elastomers, and liquid crystal materials.

Other Experience, Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements:
Theoretical and applied mechanics, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, physics (applied, engineering, or classical), or related.
