Responsibilities

  • Role and Responsibilities:
    • The candidate will serve as an onsite contractor working within the AFRL team on either experimental or theoretical questions relating to photonic materials such as:
      • Liquid crystal materials - nematics, cholosterics, host materials, activators, dopants, etc.
      • Photo-refractive materials – inorganic crystals and semiconductors, ferroelectrics
      • Optical thin films, coatings, or dyes.
      • Holographic materials.
      • Ceramics, nanomaterials, and metamaterials.
    • Engaging in:
      • Theoretical modeling/design, and/or
      • Experimental development of, and/or
      • Inspection and analysis of, and/or
      • Process research and development
    • For topics of current interest such as:
      • Fixed and active/responsive materials for single or bi-directional optical filters and protection devices, or
      • Materials for use in, or protection of, opto-electronic or opto-mechanical devices.
    • Support an ongoing, vibrant, and active research effort located at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate in the research group of a highly-regarded government customer.  
    • Work a unique opportunity to solve important, long term challenges that guide research efforts in an environment that strongly encourages collaboration (government/academic/industry), publication in top journals, and conference attendance.
