OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: The Charge Nurse (CN) is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift. The CN must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. CN’s must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care. CN’s must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care. CN’s must have patience, tact, flexibility, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations in a professional manner.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years of medical/surgical clinical experience as a direct care provider or displays the skill and judgment to fill this position
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: BLS required, ACLS required. Current state registration
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regular exposure to blood/bodily fluids.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
