Application Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Great opportunity to join a truly fast paced organization. The focus of the IT Digital Operations support team is to support the Application estate running under the (Linux OS - Debian, CentOS, and Red Hat) variants of our Analytics, Digital, Media and other business operations. While application engineering, maintenance and support are core responsibilities of this role, so also included is security and compliance responsibilities pertaining to the Application estate.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Provide backend Web Application support.
• Perform scheduled maintenance, code deployment, support and service requests.
• Linux OS Administration/Deployment/Support (Red Hat / Debian / Ubuntu / Cent OS / Oracle Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
• Document and automate processes within the environment.
• Provide off-hours application support as needed.
• And other IT digital operation duties as required, such as, but not limited to:
  • Work with developers and operations staff to provide solutions that fit within the constraints of the environment.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to enhance platform reliability such as monitoring, tools, process and best practices.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Extensive and demonstrable:
  • LAMP experience (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) & Tomcat required.
  • Working knowledge of the Linux OS command line required.
  • Troubleshooting skills in Linux, Web Application and Database technologies.
  • Thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process required.
  • Thorough understanding of Databases and effective troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledgeable with JDBC, JMS, Web Services, Security standards, SSL
  • Knowledgeable with web protocols such as HTTP, TCP/IP, SSH, Web Application Load balancing
  • Ability to read, understand, and program in to a basic to moderate level in at least one (preferably 2-3) of the following:
    • Perl, PHP, Bash/Shell, PHP, Python
• Desired and encouraged:
  • Experience with specific technologies such as SVN / CVS / GitHub / JIRA / Confluence / AEM / Crowd is strongly desired.
  • Experience with Cloud hohosting providers such as: Rackspace, IBM Softlayer and Amazon AWS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent 5+ years of current experience preferred
• Excellent Customer Service, Communication and Technical documentation skills
